Jim Bauer will long be remembered at Cal Lutheran as a very tough lineman that everyone liked and was always “full of life”.

The Bauer name is more than a memory around Cal Lutheran. Jim played at the college from 1968 through 1971, and was a defensive coordinator and special teams coach for the Kingsmen for six years through the 1978 season. His brother, Hank, also played and coached for Cal Lutheran as well as playing in the NFL as a special teams standout for the San Diego Chargers. Thanks to the Bauer brothers, successful special teams have become something of a specialty at CLU.

Jim became a long-time coach at Littlerock High in Littlerock, California where he led the Lobos to multiple Golden League championships before leaving in 2004 to become athletic director and football coach at Knight High School in Palmdale, California. He coached the football team for three seasons through 2007 and then continued on as the athletic director. The Antelope Valley Union High School District school board honored Jim through a resolution to have the Knight High School Football stadium named after Jim who is credited with being the spearhead behind getting the stadium built after the school opened in Palmdale in 2005. A dedication ceremony was held at the stadium on September 2nd of 2011 in honor of Jim who died of a heart attack at the age of 59 in 2009.

Jim’s brother hank and Jim’s three sons, Jimmy, Matt and Brady were at the ceremony attended by the entire community to accept the dedication plaque on behalf of their father and to see the new stadium now bearing his name.
